My heart was filled with despair. The Living Gods were dead. All I could do was stare blankly at the wall, my mind full of ash. They had reshaped the world, and now They were gone. What were we to do? Who would look after us and protect us? Already heretics had arisen, decrying Them as false, and putting to torch Their churches and temples. And then They appeared in my dreams. “Have faith,” He spoke, His voice booming like a thousand trumpets. “We are not gone. It was time for us to leave this world, departing for a better one. But we still watch you, we still love you, and all you have to do is call upon us and we shall answer.” I made my Pact that very night.

–The Epistle of Isabel to the Faithful 1:1-3

I stood trembling at the crossroads, waiting.

Ever since I found a forbidden copy of the Glassnerian Gospels in my grandpa’s chest, and read the Epistle of Isabel, I had been filled with a foolish desire to summon the Tyrants. The Epistle claimed it was easy. Take a box, place a lock of your hair, a lavender flower, and the foot of a white rabbit in it, then bury the box at the center of a crossroads at midnight. Supposedly, the Tyrants of Hell, the Living Gods, would appear, and they would grant three wishes in exchange for your soul.

Despite the Church, copies of the Glassnerian Bible still floated about. And I couldn’t resist reading the copy I found when sorting through my grandfather’s house. Who knew the old coot was a heretic? The account of the Tyrants was so different from the Histories; not brutal dictators who enslaved mankind, but loving Gods that valiantly fought against the Demons and tried to create a Utopia before being murdered by Saint Chasity.

I shivered as I waited. It was spring, but the nights were still cold. It seeped into my body as doubts crept into my mind; nothing was going to happen. This wasn’t going to work—the Tyrants were just a myth. Nothing more than history that had been distorted by a thousand years of embellishment by storytellers and priests, or by mothers trying to frighten their children into behaving.

I knew all the stories, relishing them as a child: the Tyrants, Mark and Mary, who could enslave you with a single word, and who commanded the forces of nature itself; silver-tongued Alison and her demonic wife Desiree, who could suck out your soul with her kiss; April, with her eyes made of glass that would freeze a man solid if he ever caught her deadly gaze; Violet, who strangled men with the two serpents that grew out of her hair; siren Korina, whose doll-faced innocence lured men to their deaths; and their demonic Guard, a horde of vicious women led by the icy Chasity. If I wasn’t so desperate for a better life, for someone to pay attention to me, I would never have even tried this foolishness.

If I wasn’t so desperate for Elisbetta.

Feeling foolish, I turned to leave. Nothing would happen; it was just a myth that you could sell your soul to the Tyrants for three wishes. The moonlight dimmed, and I glanced up, expecting to see a dark cloud pass across its white, pockmarked face. Other legends claimed men had walked across the moon, crossing the dark void. What complete—

“Hello, Ysaak,” a man said.

I started, turning around. Two figures stood in the center of the crossroads. I hadn’t heard anyone approach, no footsteps crunching on the gravel or the rustle of brush. And the road had been empty a moment ago. One was a tall man, with dark brown hair, blue eyes shining in the moonlight. His arm was wrapped around a woman, who clung to his muscular frame. My breath caught—she was gorgeous—dark-red hair framed a heart-shaped, freckled face, green eyes twinkled with mirth, and a low-cut dress revealed an immodest swath of creamy bosom.

Sweat broke across my entire body. The Tyrants of Hell stood before me, and they seemed so…normal. Where was the fire and the brimstone? There wasn’t even a chorus of the damned. I was almost disappointed…except there was something in their eyes. An ancient, powerful, and inhuman presence that battered against my soul. These beings were as beyond me as I was beyond an ant. I swallowed, taking a step back.

“You don’t have to be scared,” the woman purred. “You summoned us, after all.”

“I want to sell my soul for three wishes,” I said, trying not to let my voice crack. My heart thudded like a woodpecker against a tree.

The man smiled, and looked at the woman. “Of course. My wife and I are more than happy to make a Pact with you.”

The End

Just wanted to say congratulations on finishing your story. Overall you did a great job of taking what seemed like a simple stroke story and bringing a solid plot to it.

I do have to admit I am a bit underwhelmed by the epilogue. It would have been nice to get some closure on Chase, why she didn’t die, how long she lived, what became of her. A little more on the rebirth of free will would also have been welcome. Maybe a bit on the actual conquest of hell and whether mark and Mary changed the place at all.

Really I’m just nitpicking. Overall it was good work and I look forward to some of your new stuff.

      Hi sin.

Thanks for the compliment! When I started this story it always was ending with the moment of Mark and Mary dead, appearing in hell, and about to set out and conquer it. I debated long and hard on whether to wrap up Chase’s story or to leave it open. But ultimately it was Mark and Mary’s story and I hoped that Mark’s comments that they have all the time in the world to wait for their daughter would hint at their eventual reconciliation. Chase has her own story that I’ll tell one day. I also have a planned series that I couldn’t actually talk about until now called the Hell Chronicles, it follows Lana and Chantelle after their execution and deals with the power vacuum in Hell that Lucifer’s defeat and the escape of all the really powerful Demons left, culminating with how Mark and Mary restructure Hell.

Thank you for the reply. I understand your point about it being mark and Mary’s story. Good to hear these other stories may still be written. I know you have a lot on your plate so good luck with all of it.

Thanks. I’ve been thinking about Chase’s story all morning. It’s definitely getting written.

I’ve been reading this for a long, long time, and wow. I know we’ve talked in the past about things, but you did overdo yourself. These have been amazing stories, and the way you ended it was amazing. Together Forever, and even a thousand years later, still together.

I really, really want to read Chase’s story, though. I think it would be amazing to see how she is able to transform herself from destroyed woman to Saint of the new Church. She loved sex so much, it had become such a part of her life. Would the new Church go back to the ways of the 1500’s and condemn it based on how Mark and Mary’s Church was? How would she feel about that? Would she look at how the new Church does everything in their power to change the Living Gods Church and make it evil in every way what-so-ever and try to argue, maybe even go to war? I can see that becoming pretty long in and of itself, and like has been said before, you have a lot on your plate already. So, if it is a tad short, you won’t hear me complain.

Overall, thank you for all of your work. It has been very, very good.

Thank you! That means a lot. You could say that Chase was co-opted by the new Church and that maybe she doesn’t feel at all like a Saint. I’ve been thinking about Chase’s story all day. I have a pretty good idea the shape of it. I don’t think it’ll be terribly long.

Thank you, Chris! I have no intention of taking the blog down since I still have plenty to post. It’s only $7 a month for the hosting, so it hardly breaks the bank.

    Thanks for the great story!

Though it took me a few chapters to start liking Mark.
The later parts had a good mix of plot and sex.
I’m also convinced by the ending, Chases motivation and her conflict were nicely told.

I’ve been reading this nonstop the last few days, without a doubt the greatest story i have read that also happens to be adult fiction.
Looking forward to the Hell Chronicles, It’ll be interesting to see what Mark & Mary do with Hell, considering they’re good nature. Also they can track down Brandon, always saying how they would kill him again if they could.
I’m curious about Chase though, Doug and Tina seemed to think she would die when she killed her parents, despite being the prophetess, but she lives, because Mark forgivess her, passing on his Gift? a different Gift to the Divine Gift that was previously taken from him? or is that a missinterpretation.
If your giving Chase a story I’m guessing she’s got to be discontent, the church seems to use little white lies to promote themselves and Mark & Mary are bound to be watching out for her.

Glad you liked it. As far as Mark and Mary, Hell will have a bit of a reorganization.

Chase lived because of she’s the Prophetess. That power overrode her being killed. Mark and Mary are watching out for their daughter.

I’m working on a published version. However, I have to remove the underage and probably the incest. One or two places will sell incest, but no one will sell underage.

Wow! You’ve done a fantastic job with The Devil’s Pact. I am very impressed by this extensive tale. As others have commented, I too look forward to reading the on-going spin-offs. I hope to see something soon.

I also look forward to the next installment to The Battered Lamp.
    Keep up the good work.

I just discovered this series thanks to ASSTR and I just couldn’t stop reading it from start to finish (skipping the side stories admittedly). Not a fan of watersports but I loved the plot itself and agree that it needs a follow up of both Chase plus Mark and Mary’s time in Hell.

The Epilogue was the perfect way to give some closure to the series showing Mark and Mary together, forever.

    Please keep writing.

Glad you enjoyed it! That would be amazing, but I doubt a movie or TV show would ever happen (though it has all the sex and incest that HBO needs).

Let me just say first, I really enjoyed reading your story, immensely. I have so much to say about it. Where to begin?

I started your story thinking this was going to be another decent, amateur erotica to read. Was not expecting the story line to be more complicated! I thought I wouldn’t like this story due to its shift in an actual that wasn’t so heavily based on sex. But this was a really good story to read. At times I forgot I was reading erotica!

It’s definitely one of those scenarios we imagine: What would I do if I had the power of mind control? Sad to say, I think I would be one of many who would inevitably use it for sexual gratification. So I think the direction you had Mark go resonated with a lot of your readers, making it logical, that that would actually happen.

I think what would’ve made this story better was less descriptive sex scenes. I have to tell you, it got old rather quickly. Every time I reached a sex scene, I just scrolled through it until it went back to the adventures of Mark and Mary battling evil. Especially Mark’s and Mary’s sex scenes!

That’s really the only harsh criticism I have for your story. Your story is definitely one of those stories I wish I had written. Yet, I feel better knowing that I didn’t have the burden to write all that that material. But judging how fast you released each chapter, it was not a burden to you at all. I recently tried my hand at writing erotica. What’s lower than amateur? Well, that’s me right now. I’m trying to learn as much as I can to be decent writer. Like yourself. I’m trying to writing material that is different from the many you see in different websites. And your story is definitely not like the rest of them. It was a pleasant surprise for me.

Like the previous replies before me, I do to would like to know what happened to Chase after killing Mark, and Mark and Mary now that they’re in Hell. For I all know you’ve probably already written it and I just haven’t checked yet. If that’s the case then sorry! I just had to reply as soon as I finished your story.

I’ll definitely be sure to read your other work. Overall, The Devil’s Pact was an excellent read. I’m glad I found it by accident. Keep up ththe good work.
