Chapter Six
“That was good,” I said as Kassie popped her mouth off. “A good break.”
“Back to work?” Kassie asked.
“The dungeon is spreading so fast,” said Bellia. “And we have another sword.”
“Yep,” I said. I had just recovered the Blessed Blade of Darkness from Nyimia when that asshat Bobby distracted me. “I’m going to push the dungeon out toward Kistal and, hopefully, retrieve the Blessed Blade of Thunder, and keep driving the dungeon to the Ice Shrine.”
I had to reach all the temples and retrieve all the Blessed Blades. So far, I’d retrieved more swords than shrines. I would get to them all. I stretched and padded down the dungeon for the Vault. I was ready to get to work.
I passed through the living quarters. Nina and Alizee were playing chess of all things. Did Alizee know how to play chess? Nina might be a porn star, but she was smart. Alizee was a ditz. If you looked up “bimbo” in the dictionary, her pretty face would be there. I loved her, but her brains were not her best asset.
Her unbridled enthusiasm was. She could make a corpse smile.
Also, she was winning.
Nina looked perplexed. Did Alizee have some bimbo-level savantism with chess or something?
“Ooh, ooh, then I’ll take your queeny and check!” she said so happy. “I’ll win in three.”
Nina stared at the board. “Fuck me.”
“Sure thing!” Alizee squealed and rose into the air. “How do you want me to do it? I can eat your pussy or finger your cunt and lick your asshole or… or… We could trib!”
I smiled and headed into the Vault.
“Lord Leo,” Souleen said, her big boobs—for her size—quivering as she waved at me. She sat on her usual perch on the Void Crystal. “What are we doing today.”
“Heading for Kistal,” I said. It was a port city on the other side of the Kermon Sea. My dungeon currently reached the city of Nyimia on the Island of Nosh in the middle of the sea. I gripped the stone and shifted into the menu and found Fara.
She appeared in the vault, blinking. “Lord Leo. Ah, we are continuing the dungeon. Just let me get my…” She trailed off as I found her belongings and moved them into the room. “My thanks.”
“Just shifting around inventory through menus,” I said. “Playing equipment Tetris in Diablo II and other video games prepared me for today.”
“I see,” she said. “I assume we are driving the dungeon for Kistal.”
I nodded.
“Then you need to drive the dungeon at 310 degrees,” she said, giving me directions. This stretch would be longer than the portion that went from Outpost Nalamire Beta to Nyimia. I reached the point and probed upward. I found the surface and opened my dungeon. Water flooded through. I closed it, stored the seawater in my dungeon’s inventory, and drove my dungeon straight up until it crested the ocean.
I made another opening and cast the Scrying ritual.
The sensor rose over the wave. A distant thunder rumbled. I turned the arcane object until the coast appeared. Waves slammed into cliffs. A temple was built up there. The waves were fierce and loud. A mile or so up the shore was a bay with a breakwater. The actual city of Kistal. Smoke rose from it.
Smoke?
I sent the scrying sensor racing toward it and spotted rubble. Ships were putting out into the harbor. The docks were crowded with humans struggling to get on board the ships. The fuck was going on. Fara moved up close, frowning.
A shape flew by. A boom echoed and a building ahead exploded into rubble. Debris flew through the air, crushing people fleeing through the city. My stomach sank. Just what the fuck was going on here.
“There!” Fara pointed. “I glimpsed a wing on the edge.
I turned the sensor and found it. A massive dragon soared over the city, her bronze wings flapping. She had matching scales save for her belly which was bright silver. She opened her mouth and the air distorted like Ms. Trueno’s shrieks. The sonic attack destroyed another building.
“That’s the temple guardian,” I blurted out, stunned by the sight. “Why is she attacking her own city?”
Fire burned across a quarter of the city. People were fleeing in all directions. I couldn’t comprehend why this dragon had gone rogue and attacked the city. It looked recent. Something in the last hour. It was just good timing or something that I found it.
What to do?
I had to tame the dragon. No. No time to plan. She was killing people.
Chapter Seven
I ignored the sensor and grabbed the Void Crystal.
“Ready for combat!” I shouted. “Ancient thunder dragon rampaging through Kistal.”
I drove my dungeon forward and used the scrying to guide it. I found a large piece of rubble and thrust my dungeon up through it. A spire appeared. Immediately, I transported all my level 4 monster girls and my companions.
“Dragon?” Mother gasped.
“Wait, wait, what?” Maya asked. “Where are we now?”
“Kistal!” I said.
“I was about to fucking cum!” Nina Naughty gasped.
“Just get out there and stop that dragon!” I roared at them and opened my dungeon up. “Save the people of Kistal.”
“We’re on it, Dark Lord Big Bro!” Garnet shouted.
“Damn straight,” Terra said.
“Let’s go, ladies!” Lana Fulmine said as I stared at the chaos. My monster girls flooded out into the chaos.
The dragon breathed and blew up a portion of the docks, sending people flying. I swallowed, shaking my head. I was utterly stunned by what had happened. This was nuts. It should not be happening.
My hands clenched at the anger building in me.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lana Fulmine surged out with the others, utterly confused. She had been leading a group of will o’ wisps in yoga when she found herself in the midst of chaos. She flapped her wings made of lightning and took to the skies with the cherubim and griffins.
The giants grew to their full size, towering above the people. Chaos lay everywhere. A thunderous roar erupted from the sea. The dragon surged over the docks, debris flying through the air. The dragon was attacking her own city
Why?
There was no time to plan. Lana Fulmine snapped her fingers and sent, “Fliers, attack!”
The griffins shot ahead of the others. They flew fast, the four of them blurs. They were on the dragon in moments, attacking with their claws as Lana Fulmine soared after them with the cherubim and the other flying monster girls.
The air monster girls reached the dragon and launched their attack. They struck across the behemoth’s back. The wingspan of an ancient dragon was an entire football field. They had to get the creature out of the city.
The creature turned her head and roared the griffins.
Manna and Maha burst into sparks, ripped apart by the sonic attack. The other two griffins, Simhaya and Nidhanya, scattered. Lana Fulmine knew this day would be bloody. She soared over the city, destruction everywhere.
On the roof of a building that was badly damaged, a family huddled in the corner. Trapped. A portion of the building collapsed, the rest shaking. How much longer before the rest failed and killed the family of six?
“No!” Lana Fulmine gasped.
She swooped down and landed before the children. The father saw her and screamed. He ripped a belt knife from its sheath and stabbed at her belly. She twisted out of the way. The blade nicked her silvery side.
“Fucker,” she hissed and threw him back. The mother screamed and leaped at Lana Fulmine, the children sobbing.
The lightning sprite flapped her wings and jumped over the mother. She landed before the four children and scooped them up in her arms. Her side throbbed, bleeding from the nick. She cursed silently as the children wailed in her arms.
“It’ll be okay,” she said and jumped off the building.
The parents screamed behind her.
She soared down to the chaos of the street, landing in an alley. She released the children, saying, “I’ll get your parents!”
She flapped her wings and climbed into the air. The parents were watching in stunned. The father stared at the blade in his hand. He threw it down, looking sheepish as she landed. She didn’t care but grabbed them both and jumped from the building.
It collapsed with a great crash. Dust swept over them as she soared them down to their children. She landed them. The dragon roared in the distance. She flapped her wings and climbed back into the sky to see how the battle went.
The only cherub still flying was Kardas.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alizee watched Kardas fly clear of the sonic blast that killed the other cherubim.
“Let’s go!” Alizee shouted at Nidhanya and Simhaya, the two griffins now flying with her. They had blood on their claws and talons. They had damaged the dragon, but not killed it. “Come on!”
“YES!” the two griffins roared.
The cheerleader threw blades of air at the dragon, striking the creature in the neck. The blades cut through bronze scales. Blood squirted. The beast roared and slashed claws at Alizee. She gasped, not expecting that.
Nidhanya pushed her to the side. The sylph spun through the air as the griffin screamed in pain. Motes exploded from the pieces of Nidhanya’s body. The claws had ripped her to pieces. Alizee caught her spun, her hair whipping around her.
“Come on!” she cried to Simhaya. “Let’s stop her! For Leo and Squad Flying Cuties!”
“Lord Leo and Squad Flying Cuties!” Simhaya roared as the pair chased after the dragon.
“We have to get her away from the city,” Terra shouted.
“Welcome to suggest any idea,” Nina Naughty said as she threw a flaming pitchfork at the dragon. Her seraphim joined her, throwing balls of fire.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ms. Rosa Trueno wished she knew a way to get the dragon to stop. All she could do was help on the ground. She rushed through the city with the kitsune.
“I hear voices,” Nagya said. The kitsune pointed at a building that lay half-collapsed to the right down a street. “There are people in the rubble.”
“Let’s help them!” Ms. Trueno cried and raced toward it. The dragon roared in the sky. The ground shook.
The kitsune started singing as they reached the collapsed building. The survivors around them were charmed by their song. Each of the kitsune had three bushy tails of gray-blue fur that twitched with their music. They were guiding the people to start digging.
Ms. Trueno surveyed the damage, looking to where she could use her voice. She spotted a piece of rubble and shouted, pulverizing it. Chunks of stone spilled down from it, clearing a cavity. She pointed and the kitsune sang.
A dozen humans swarmed in and started clearing the rubble. Ms. Trueno did not like controlling people like this, but it was important to save them. The humans were gathering stones and tossing shattered bricks to the side.
The thunder sprite moved about the charmed humans as they worked, peering for another large obstacle to destroy. She spotted another large chunk of masonry that she demolished with a focused shout. She darted into it, wiggling into the cavity. If it collapsed on her, she would be revived.
She had no fear as she heard the cries of people in there.
“I’m coming!” she cried as she moved in deeper. She found another obstacle and destroyed it.
The building creaked above them. This could collapse even worse at any moment. She would save those trapped. She pushed deeper into the ruins.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I have an idea,” Garnet sent to the demons flying with her. They were Squad Dark Hotties. “Distract her for me!”
“Yes, little sis,” Mhora said. The demons liked to call her that. All the Darkness monster girls thought of Garnet as their sister. She loved it.
The demons surged in and cracked their whips. They struck at the dragon’s wings. Nina Naughty and Alizee attacked, too. Lana Fulmine soared across the city from the distraction. A blast of light flew past Garnet as Mrs. Lucina soared into the fight.
The dragon’s wing slammed into Mhora. The demon screamed as she spun through the air, her wing bent. She crashed to the ground and her death below. Garnet put that out of her mind. She would make it up to Mhora later.
She would make her cum so hard, but first…
Garnet focused on the dragon’s jaws. The beast hissed and opened it wide to attack. She waited for the right moment then unleashed her power. The shadows formed a ball gag in the dragon’s mouth. A massive one that choked off her attack.
She roared through the gag. Garnet laughed in delight.
“S&M for the win!” she squealed. “You are dealing with Lady Big Perv Garnet, Mistress of Horniness, Queen of Depravity, and Empress of Kinkiness!”
The dragon roared through the gag as Garnet swooped down and cracked her whip at the dragon’s eye. The creature snarled in pain, jaws clamping down on the shadowy ball to crush it. Garnet lashed out again, striking the eye.
“Go, Garnet, Go!” Alizee shouted before throwing out a blade of wind that struck the dragon’s other eye.
A claw slashed out for Garnet. She flapped her wings and climbed over it. The wind of its passage buffeted her. She drove for another attack as fiery pitchforks, balls of fire, and blasts of light slammed into the dragon. Blood spurted through the air. Drips rained down on the city. The houri and seraphim chased the dragon, led by Nina Naughty and Mrs. Lucina.
Alizee darted in only to miss the dragon’s slashing claws. They ripped through the sylph. She burst into pieces and then motes. Garnet shouted in fury for her dead friend and cracked the whip at the dragon’s eye again.
The dragon roared. The shadowy ball exploded as a blast of sonic energy surged out. Garnet gasped as she flapped her wings and dodged the attack. The shock wave slammed into her. She screamed, spinning through the air.
The dragon snarled and opened her jaws wide.
“No!” Garnet screamed before the jaws slammed down on her.
She was in the dragon’s mouth. The tongue was rough and wet. The creature shoved her to the right and into her teeth. Before Garnet could react, the fangs chomped down on her. Pain burst through her body before the peace of the Void fell on her.
Souleen hugged her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mrs. Zoe Baldwin wanted to help people, but they ran screaming from her.
“What should we do, Mrs. Baldwin?” asked Zahar, one of the hydras with all three of her heads.
“Just find a place to spit venom at her,” the dryad said. “We can’t make the people help us.”
“Right!” Khazaana said and raced down the street, her red hair streaming behind all three of her heads. The other hydras followed.
Mrs. Baldwin ran with them. The dragon appeared, being driven to the side by the giants. They were closing on her now. She was being struck by the flying monster girls. Nina Naughty and Bella Lucina were in the sky.
Is Garnet dead? Mrs. Baldwin thought, worrying for her daughter. Alizee must be, too. There’s Lana. That’s good.
The giants raised their fists in the air and slammed them at the dragon, forcing her to dodge to the right and fly toward Mrs. Baldwin and her hydras. Garadan, Zahar, Bhavya, and Khazaana all hissed in delight as they raised their combined total of twelve heads skyward.
Green poison shot into the air and struck the dragon’s silver belly. The chemical sizzled. The hydras kept spitting as the dragon ducked a giant’s punch. The creature swooped over the spitting hydras, the long tail striking the building rising to Mrs. Baldwin’s right.
Debris burst from it as the poison attacks hit. The dryad smiled as a shadow fell on her. She glanced up and barely had a chance to shout before a chunk of masonry slammed into her. She felt a moment of crushing pain and peace.
As Souleen hugged her, she did not think the battle was going well. So many were dying in the streets.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The dragon climbed again, debris from the struck building raining down on the street.
“Keep it up,” Hagane sent as she rode on Milzisi’s shoulder. The giant ran down the street, trying not to crush anyone. “Get ready, Milzisi.”
“I have her,” the giant answered as she burst into a run.
Hagane clutched onto one of the giant’s locks of black hair. The armor Milzisi wore rattled as she moved with such speed. She cut off the dragon and punched at the creature’s head. She struck, breaking off a horn. It spun through the air and crashed into the city below.
The dragon roared and flapped her wings. She whipped her head around. Milzisi tried to grab the creature. She gripped the neck, but not in time. The powerful jaws crushed down on Milzisi’s throat. Hagane’s stomach would have lurched if she had any internal organs.
The giant burst into motes. Hagane fell.
She plummeted to the ground. She pointed her feet earthward a moment before she landed. Her body absorbed the impact. She shuddered at the pain, though. It hurt. The dragon roared and slammed her tail down at the animated statue.
Hagane formed arm-blades as the tail whipped at her.
It struck her body as she slashed. She had the brief satisfaction of wounding the dragon’s tail before the powerful blow crumbled her body. She was thrown and struck a building, the damage too extreme for her to recover.
She collapsed to the ground beside the corpses of several humans. She stared into sightless eyes, wondering if she had failed the people of the city, before vanishing in a glimmer of motes.
Guilt followed her into the Void.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The giant burst into motes as Mrs. Bella Lucina and Nina Naughty flew high with their seraphim and houri. The angel stared at the devastation below. Blasts of poison shot up from the hydras and chunks of ice flew up from Crystal. She was moving through the streets. People were fleeing out of the city.
“The streets below look clear,” Mrs. Lucina said. “Let’s keep the fight over here.”
“Right,” Nina Naughty said. “Giants, keep her penned in.”
“We shall,” Stiprsa said. She was throwing a punch at the dragon. The creature banked to the side and struck the giant in the chest. The massive breastplate Stiprsa wore rang. She stumbled back but did not die.
Lielsi was not so lucky. The second giant reached for the dragon’s wing, maybe to break the bone. The dragon turned her head and breathed out a blast of sonic energy. It struck the giant and ripped through her breastplate. Her chest exploded. She fell back onto a building but became glittering sparkles that washed over it. The dragon flew past.
“Let’s bring the bitch down!” Nina Naughty roared and flew forward, her seraphim followed.
Mrs. Lucina motioned for her houri and followed, her angelic wings beating fast. Her halo grew brighter. She fired off a blast of light. Fireballs and a flaming pitchfork joined the attack along with blades of light spinning from the houri.
The attacks ripped into the dragon’s scales. None of them penetrated deeply, but the creature bled. A thousand paper cuts could bring down a giant. They would prove that today. Mrs. Lucina belived it as she fired off another blast.
Lana Fulmine swooped in from the right flank, her wings crackling. A blast of lightning slammed into the dragon. The beast roared and flicked out her wing. It should be impossible for the creature to use her wings as weapons while flying, but she knew how to time the beats just right.
Lana tried to pull up, but the wing struck her from above and sent her slamming into the rubble below. Mrs. Lucina could only shake her head and keep firing her blasts of light. She would not relent.
They would take her out.
The dragon flew at them.
“Scatter!” Nina Naughty shouted.
Mrs. Lucina surged to the right, firing a blast of light from her halo. The glowing disk struck a fang, cutting it in half. The dragon roared, sonic energy rippling the air. The angel felt it in her bones. A pair of seraphim, Ala and Estupenda, vanished along with Poviya the houri.
The dragon surged past Mrs. Lucina. She spun, her angelic wings flapping. She fired off a blast of light that struck the dragon in the eye. Blood spurted. Triumph shot through the angel at the wound she had just inflicted as the beast soared past.
“Let’s take—”
The dragon’s tail slammed into her from behind. The angel screamed as her back broke. She hurtled at the creature and struck the armored scales. Her battered body fell toward the ground, her vision dimming.
She thought of her lover, her wonderful Leo, before death took her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Damn,” Crystal muttered as the angel fell from the sky. “Let’s get over there and hit her!”
“We have a problem, Crystal,” said Vysokiy, one of the four jotnar with her.
“A big one,” Bolshoya added, pointing at a large group of humans rushing at them. They were refugees, and they looked angry. They were screaming at them.
“They’re not going to attack us?” asked Khraniti, holding a hammer of ice in her hand. “We could crush them with ease.”
“But we can’t,” Crystal hissed. “Leo would be so pissed at us. He might let us stay dead.”
Her pride burning, the frozen monster girl ran down the street, the mob roaring after them. They were out for blood. The jotnar followed. Crystal threw a look to spot Vysokiy not fleeing. She threw her arms wide, blocking off the street. She wore her ice armor. Her hammer melted away.
“I am Lord Leo’s jotunn,” she roared. “I am not here to hurt you! I am your friend!”
The mob did not care. They slammed into her. A wave of humans crashed into her, furious at what had happened. Crystal darted around the corner knowing that Vysokiy was dead. If she didn’t move fast enough, they would tear her apart, too.
It galled her so much, but she had to obey her little brother’s orders. How she wanted to spank him, though.
“If I get ripped apart by a mob of humans, I am going to punish you so hard!” she screamed at her brother as she ran.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Terra threw chunks of masonry, the ogresses working with her.
They were big and strong, able to shift the rubble. They had to dig out survivors. It was chaos. The dragon roar echoed in another part of the city. Hrandyjozny pulled aside a large section of brick wall and tossed it to the side.
“There’s someone here,” she said and reached into the rubble. She pulled out a battered body, a woman crushed. “She’s… dead.”
“Keep digging,” Terra said. “There could be survivors. We can’t give up on them.”
“No,” said Hrandyjozny as she gently set the woman’s body on the ground. “I’m sorry.”
“Wait, wait, I have a child. She’s alive!” Voina cried and flung aside a splintered beam. “It’s okay. Don’t worry. You’re safe.”
Terra would have cried for joy if she had tear ducts. She smiled as the dusty child was pulled out sobbing for her mother. Hopefully, more lived. They just had to keep digging.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Morana rode on Glavata’s horse behind the dullahan. They had been racing through the city, struggling to keep up with the fight and navigate the destruction. The two giants were rushing after the dragon who breathed.
“We must overcome the beast so she can serve our Dark Lord!” Morana shouted.
“Yes, yes, she will serve Lord Leo,” Glavata said, her head held in her hand. “She shall be chained to his will.”
“That’s right!” Morana shouted.
In the sky, the houri and seraphim fought the dragon. Nina Naughty was with them. A griffin darted in for an attack. One of the cherubim fired a blast of lightning. Demons swooped in with their shadowy whips. Morana wanted to scream.
The dullahans threw their heads.
In the sky, one of the houri died. The dragon turned to devour one of the two seraphim only for the four dullahan heads to strike and burst into deathly explosions. The dragon roared as the black energy rippled around her. She banked around, her head whipping about.
Her one good eye fixed on Morana.
She screamed.
The dragon roared
Sound and death swept past each other. The street burst as Morana’s fleshy body exploded. She barely was cognitive of the sonic attack ripping her and most of the dullahans apart. Glavata survived, but the rest were reduced to sparkles of colors that rained across the street.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Maybe you should unleash the dragons,” Nina Naughty sent to Leo as she threw another burning pitchfork.
Kardas, the last of the cherubim, exploded into motes, crushed by the tail. The dragon rose from her dive, leaving the dullahans and Morana as glittering sparkles. The dragon’s teeth devoured Olca, killing the last of the demons.
She picked off the monster girls one by one. Her claws ripped Atesorara the seraph in half. Nina Naughty dodged the bleeding tail. Something had cut off the tip and it dripped blood in the dragon’s wake. She threw a pitchfork at the tail.
From below, a dagger of ice flew up. Crystal scrambled through the wreckage. Nina Naughty smiled. They were hurting the dragon, but they needed something more to end it. Leo hadn’t answered. He must be busy doing something.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Maya was the only one of the monster girls that hadn’t gone out. She kept her kappas behind. It was hard staying behind, but she knew what would happen. Light flashed from an alcove. Leo appeared with Kassie at his side, the halfling dressed in her blue and red robes.
“I knew you would come,” Maya said with a smirk. “I’m your guard.”
He looked down at himself, fire burning beneath the armor he wore. “I’m made of fire, and you can’t fly.”
Maya jumped into his arms, not at all bothered by his fire. She knew that he wouldn’t hurt her. “Carry me.”
He shook his head and laughed.
Chapter Eight
I soared into the air, the casualties appalling. I hadn’t wanted to go out. I had hoped to have my monster girls subdue her. My companions and Level 4s should have had the strength to take down an ancient dragon.
Apparently not.
The other dragons wanted to be unleashed, but they were so big. The destruction of the city could be so much worse. If two dragons crashed to the ground in the middle of the city… It churned my stomach at the thought of how bad the casualties would be.
Nina Naughty and a few of the flying monster girls were still in the fight. My devil was dodging the dragon’s attacks. Poisonous spit shot up from the surviving hydras and a crystal knife shot up from my big sister. A flaming pitchfork struck the dragon in the left side. She appeared blind.
The dragon snapped her head to the right and bit Nina Naughty in half.
“Oh, no,” Maya cried as I flew at the dragon.
“I need you to annoy her,” I said to Maya as I flew straight at the dragon. She opened her mouth.
“What?” Maya gasped.
“You wanted to get in the game,” I said before roaring, “Strong and durable, let the strength of Lord Nabu shield!”
A metal shield appeared in the air and blocked the sonic attack. The air rippled around it, the sound deafening but it didn’t hit me directly. The shield failed. I had a plan. The surviving giants were already moving into position. They were in the worst of the ruined city.
“Get ready,” I told Maya as the dragon opened her mouth to swallow us.
I banked to the right, the dragon following. Maya gasped as I threw her from my arms and cried out, “Storm howls, let the tempest of Lord Anu whirl!”
The air caught her and threw her. I smiled as she hurtled like a glistening drop and splashed on the dragon’s cheek right beneath her good eye. She would be fine. She could take falls easily. The dragon stared at me and snarled in fury.
“Yes, you know a builder when you see one!” I roared. “EAT ME!”
The dragon roared at me and chased me.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Maya landed on the dragon’s remaining eye. Maya flowed over it. The dragon roared in pain and shook her head. Leo shouted something, but it was too far away. Maya gripped the eyelid of the dragon and formed her hand into a fist.
She punched the dragon in the eye.
The beast roared in pain.
Maya winced as she hurt the beast. It was a cheap shot, but the creature was insane. Why had she attacked her own city? Everything was in ruin. People were fleeing toward the temple up the coast. Ships were sailing fast.
The dragon slashed her claws, trying to hit Maya. She flowed out of the way, flattening her body across the dragon’s scales. She parted herself where a claw would have ripped her apart. The dragon roared her frustration.
Leo danced before her, burning and shining all at the same time.
Why isn’t he shooting spells at her?
The dragon drew in a deep breath. Panic shot through the undine. The dragon wanted to rip her boyfriend apart with a sonic attack. The undine punched the dragon in the eye. Hard. She hit that squishy orb to knock the dragon off target.
The dragon didn’t care. The attack didn’t do much to distract the beast as she breathed out her sound.
The air distorted, rushing at Leo.
Maya’s body rippled in fear until he vanished in an arc of lightning. He appeared by the giants in a heavily destroyed section of town. He floated there. Something flashed. A bar of metal struck the dragon in the snout.
An Intermediate spell? Maya was baffled.
The dragon roared and rushed at him. Leo just floated there. Maya punched the dragon in the eye. She was doing nothing to the creature. It didn’t care. Maya was just a gnat to this thing. She wished she could shape her body into hard objects.
“What are you doing?” Maya asked. “Fight it!”
“I am,” he said, sounding so calm.
Big perv! she thought in frustration.
The dragon soared at him with a single-minded ferocity. The two giants crouched down. Maya’s body rippled as she realized a plan. Another bar of metal struck the dragon in the snot. Blood spurted. The dragon roared. He shot away. The beast chased him and flew past Stiprsa and Dargumsa.
The giants lunged at the dragon.
Each of them grabbed the dragon’s legs. With hard yanks, screaming out, they yanked down on the wounded dragon and slammed her down into the rubble of the ruined city. Dust burst from them as the two giants jumped on her wings to pin her down. Sweat dripped down their brows as they fought to hold her.
Leo spun around and became ball lightning.
The dragon opened her mouth to roar. Leo surged down at her. The dragon’s bellow burst from her mouth. A metal shield appeared before Leo. Maya smiled as the sound struck the shield and rebounded. Maya’s eyes widened.
“You idiot!” she shouted at Leo before the sound hit her.
I did absolutely nothing! Maya thought with pure annoyance as she vanished into motes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ms. Trueno had just pulled out the last person from the rubble when the dragon flew overhead. She tracked it and gasped as the giants yanked it down from the sky. Ahead of the beast was Leo. Her foolish student had entered the battlefield.
The ground shook from the dragon’s impact. Dust billowed a few blocks down the street. She burst into a run to help him. The dragon roar, her sonic attack shaking the world. Ms. Trueno plunged into the smoke as Maya screamed out in her mind.
Through the smoke, a ball of crackling lightning appeared and slammed into the dragon’s open mouth. Ms. Trueno stared in shock. The two giants held the thrashing dragon down, her tail slashing into the buildings.
Ball Lightning?
Fear shot through the teacher. The dragon had swallowed her student.
“No!” she screamed in a panic. How long did she have to save him?
To be continued…
